Eastern North Carolina Candlestand 
 

 

New Bern, North Carolina. Circa 1790.  Mahogany.  Round top with beautifully turned urn-vase shaft. Graceful Queen Anne legs terminating in fabulous pad feet.  Oak block.  Original iron spider.  Great color and finish.  For a related table, see John Bivins, The Furniture of Coastal North Carolina 1700-1820; page 394, table 7.15.

Southern One Drawer Stand

Piedmont, North Carolina.  Circa 1840.  Yellow pine country Hepplewhite work stand with drawer.  Mortise and tenon and pegged construction. Tapered legs. Original black paint with great wear. Drawer constructed with cut nails. Lock and drawer pull are original. Top is one board with battens attached at front and rear edge. Pine and cherry secondary woods.  From a Greensboro estate.

North Carolina. Circa 1810.  Walnut.  Rectangular top with nicely rounded corners.  Great legs with wonderful turned vase shaft.

Virginia.  Circa 1820.  Yellow pine country Hepplewhite work stand.  Mortise and tenon construction, nice tapered legs. Original blue-gray paint. Two board top attached with square nails.
