Petersburg, Virginia. Circa 1814. Attributed to the shop of Leonard Seaton and Graves Matthews.  Very distinct "roll" on the center front edge of seat.  Bamboo turnings.  Three of the four chairs are a perfect match.  The fourth is from the same shop but slightly less elaborate.  It has less decorative turnings on front legs and no "roll" on front of seat.  See related example in "American Windsor Chairs" by Nancy Goyne Evans; page 575, figure 8-11.  Also refer to "Journal of Early Southern Decorative Arts" May, 1992; Volume XVIII, Number 1; pages 89-91

Early-mid 20^th C. Fine copies of chairs from Baltimore, Maryland circa 1790. Original pair are in the Winterthur Museum in Delaware. Mahogany with wonderfully inlaid splats.
